About
Abby Posner is a versatile instrumentalist and songwriter who started playing and performing at a young age. Originally from Evergreen Colorado, Posner moved to California in 2002 to study at California Institute of the Arts as a multi focused music major. World Percussion became a major focus, as well as developing her compositional sense of songwriting. During her time at CalArts Abby began to form the eclectic bluegrass-rock band, Fearmia; Abby on guitar, mandolin, and banjo, while sharing lead vocals and songwriting with friend and band-mate Jesse Olema. Fearmia hit the LA venues and audiences became entangled with the band's authenticity and unique driving force. with 3 albums under their belt, Fearmia has toured the north and southwest, played many festivals, including SXSW in 2011, and W.C. Handy festival in 2009.
Posner also formed many side projects in her time in Los Angeles which has included playing drums with Rock band, The Paper Tigers, Bucket and String (a unique instrumental folk duo) with Abby on guitar, didgeridoo, and mandolin, and Emily Corwin on Cello.
East Coast west, an experimental Jazz Duo with Posner on guitar/vocals, and Mercedes Smith on Alto Sax.
Abby continues to play solo and with Fearmia. She also plays electric guitar with Kristen Cook, and Marcela Carmona.
In the spring of 2008 Abby scored the music for a film called Through their eyes an Agent Orange documentary. Posner tracked and recorded the entire feature length film using live instrumentation, combining a marriage between western music and vietnamese tonality.
In the Winter of 2011 Posner scored her second feature length Documentary titled Across Land Across Sea.
Abby Posner currently teaches music at several schools in the Southern California area, and recently went on tour with Chris Pureka playing drums and banjo on Pureka's 2010 North West Portion of her Tour.
Posner released her debut solo record titled The Gatherer and the Thief in the spring of 2011, and is currently in the studio working on Full Length record "For You, The Spring" coming soon!
