Formed by Rozz Williams in Los Angeles around 1979–1980, Christian Death released the influential debut album Only Theatre of Pain in 1982 and became a key act in the U.S. deathrock/gothic scene. The group underwent major lineup changes in the mid-1980s when Valor Kand took leadership and continued releasing and touring under the name; Rozz Williams died in 1998. Christian Death has remained active in various incarnations and continues to tour and release new material.
